THK catalogue values are shown for the corresponding DCM flange-type lead screw nuts. These permissible screw/nut loads are not the same as the nominal cylinder working force. Actual speed, acceleration and repeatability depend on the moving mass, motor, drive ratio, screw lead, unsupported screw length, mounting orientation, duty cycle and application conditions; they must be verified during system sizing.
Why trapezoidal screw?
Trapezoidal screw friction provides resistance to back-driving and can reduce the energy needed to maintain position in suitable applications.
The cylinder can be configured with a suitable AC or DC motor and gearbox for the machine voltage, control method and duty requirements.
AC or DC motor options enable straightforward commissioning in applications that do not require complex motion control.
Direct and parallel motor arrangements help the actuator fit different machine envelopes and installation constraints.
Electric actuation uses power on demand and reduces the need for compressors, air preparation and compressed-air losses.
Within the suitable force range, it offers a clean, low-maintenance electromechanical solution with less need for pumps, tanks, valves and hoses.
Important: Self-locking behaviour varies with screw lead, load, vibration, lubrication and wear. It must not be treated as a safety brake. Vertical or safety-critical axes require application-specific risk assessment and, where necessary, a suitable holding brake or mechanical safety device.
Application areas
Best suited to controlled, high-force axes where extreme speed is not the primary requirement.
Fixture clamps, stops, locks and controlled holding mechanisms in production machinery.
Insertion, joining, forming and assembly operations requiring controlled linear force.
Repeatable guide, table, roller, conveyor and tooling adjustments during product changeovers.
Controlled, slow and dependable opening and closing of flaps, dampers and valves in industrial flow systems.
Dough cutting, pressing, portioning, mould adjustment and packaging motion on non-food-contact machine axes.
Long-stroke or higher-load machine axes, subject to motor sizing and vertical-axis safety validation.
